Umberto Nicolao was born in Milan, Italy, in 1960. In 1987 he received a master’s degree in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy.He joined Philips In 1987 as an Applications Engineer in the field of ICs for audio and television and from 1989 through 1993 he worked at Philips Car Systems as O.E.M. Sales manager.
Since 1976 he has been a contributing editor and technical writer for the most important italian High Fidelity, Home Theatre, Car Audio and Audio Pro magazines. He is author of 20 educational books for Sound Engineers and audio hobbyists and a huge number of articles on the most various audio issues.
Member of the Audio Engineering Society since 1986, Umberto Nicolao has chaired several national/international conferences and technical paper sessions, and is author of several papers, which have been presented at various AES national and international conventions.
In January 2012 one of his projects, namely the Venice high water acoustical information system, has been recognized by the international magazine Installation Europe as the european design of the month.
Currently Umberto Nicolao is a Consulting engineer, Journalist/Writer and Teacher, Sound Systems Engineering being his main field of competence.
